Professional Learning

In order to meet NCLB standards for Highly Qualified Teachers and to fulfill requirements established by the state of New Jersey, the paradigm of Professional Development has shifted. Professional Development must: impact student achievement, be student oriented, involve team learning, be results-driven, be teacher-driven, reflect daily job-embedded activity, and include content specific pedagogy. In striving to meet these goals the Lanning Square Teacher Academy has been designed to provide all professional staff with the opportunity to participate in monthly activities researched, prepared, and presented by colleagues. All activities address the teaching and learning process to increase content knowledge as well as the use of scientifically based instructional strategies in core academic subjects and the alignment of classroom activities with NJCCCS. Teachers and professional staff work collaboratively utilizing horizontal and vertical articulation to gather data, prepare research, and provide technology enhanced presentations which reflect cross curricular content to impact student achievement.
